From Bourbon Street, New Orleans to The River Walk, San Antonio
What a contrast between the two. Mary Ann fell in love with this city and the Alamo is impressive as ever. We are staying in the Travelers World RV Resort on the River Walk 5 miles from downtown San Antonio. (I think we need to purchase a couple of bikes) The Resort is also 3 miles north of Brooks Air Force Base where I went through my Apollo days back in the spring of 65. It brought back good memories.

4 Days on Galveston Island, Texas
This is a must come back place for the both of us. It was more then we expected with a great summer resort area, large port and so much to do. Our site was right on the Gulf at Galveston Island State Park. The good news is, we had beautiful views of the ocean from our RV windows. The bad news is, the weather was grey and rainy, plus Mary Ann caught a bad cold. Let's hope we do better in San Antonio.

Lake Charles, Louisiana
We sent a night at Sam Houston State Park in Lake Charles before heading to Galveston. I try to only drive about 200 miles a day between locations. I was surprised how big the bayou is in Louisiana. We traveled miles on roads built over the marsh lands, quit interesting.

The Urch Boys made it to New Orleans
Mike and Erik joined us for a few days in New Orleans. Erik took a Jet Blue trip down from Burlington, Vermont and Mike drove down from Charlotte, North Carolina. Good food, good music and good times were had in the Big Easy

New Orleans
Back to my birthplace and a day in New Orleans.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans
The good news is, we are in a great RV Resort and site, right on the water, by the marina at Lake Pontchartrain. The bad new is, it is near the Industrial Canal and a rough section of New Orleans. The resort is close to the first levee breach, during Hurricane Katrina, and was under 15 feet of water. It is amazing to see all the new construction and areas still not rebuilt after all these years. We will be here for a week, checking out New Orleans and all it has to offer.

A sight for nature
Big Lagoon State Park is the first RV resort we have stayed in, since the last 4 months on the road, that we really felt like we were in a real natural setting. Both Mary Ann & I really enjoyed the surroundings and the miles of hiking trails the park had to offer.

Crew of the Blue Angles
Pensacola is a huge Navel Air Station and home of the famous Blue Angles, but it also has one of the most impressive naval aviation museums in the country. I told the MP at the gate that I was a SAC trained killer back in the 60's and we had 3 WWII Ace pilots in the Urch family, but he still wouldn't let me on the flight line.

A day off the reservation
I thought I better give Mary Ann a change so we broke camp and went over the bridge to Perdido Key, rented a cabana and spent the day on the beach. It was full of college kids, but it didn't stop us from having fun...another fantastic beach on the Gulf Coast.

Dusk at Big Lagoon State Park
Big Lagoon is a large 678 acre park located along the Intracoastal Waterway south of Pensacola on the Gulf Coast. We will be staying in this beautiful natural setting from March 13 to 16 before heading to New Orleans.
